Back on the airwaves

Published by Rachey under Surf Rating - Tiny

Hi Guys,

sorry its been a while since the last post, lots has been happening at our end and we have been struggling to find time to get down to hells mouth to do even get our little toe wet in the water. Cause we are not down as much as we should be it would be cool that if you get down there to just write a quick little post letting us know what it was like, whether there was any surf por just anything that takes your fantasy - you can just get it off your chest here….

Anyway after what looked to be a pretty messy weekend with loads of rain and bad weather, it looks like there is going to be little surf. sunday looked good (at least the  weather was) but it looks like the weather is going to close in again. Did anybody manage to get down on the sunday?

I saw this really cool pic on magic seaweed, have a look love the colours in the sky, what a cool place to be surfin…

Thanks guys for leaving messages on here, its great that people (surfers) in the NW are finding this…there has to be more of us! Its looking like this weekend is going to be quite good, the weather might hold out too, I think we are going to try and head down to hells mouth for friday as it looks like it could be a good day…after the bigger waves have left mid week!

it would be great to be able to share journeys down to hells mouth, might be in touch! - thanks.

summer surf

Published by Rachey under Surf Rating - Tiny

Has anyone been recently, im feeling a bit out of touch as its been a few weeks since I have been to hells mouth. Although the weather has been spot on the surf doesnt look like its been up to much…jase?

today looks nice although small, it could be worth a trip soon. I am really starting to miss the odd weekly road trip down to abersoch. Once surf is good, and the weather is good, and we have a weekend planned and put a side any other responsibilities, then i might stand a chance of a visit. It is always going to be the perfect weekend of doing very little, apart from surfing…drinking…and eating! who ever said you need to leave the UK for a cheeky weekend break!!!

Still Flat

Published by Rachey under Cool Sites, Surf Rating - Tiny

So for the last week and a half it has been pretty much flat every day - only the odd little bit of chop at best. It also looks like it could stay like this for the remaining few days as well. Checking out magic seaweeds forecast for the few days that are approaching it looks like that saturday will be the best, but even then we are looking at only 1 star and no more than a couple of feet.

Hopefully there will be some action over the coming couple of weeks and if there is even the slightest sniff of a decent swell we will post it on here. In the mean time cause we have had so much free time on our hands we have been checking out the pics on magicseaweed and found a few killer ones. Here they are.

BIG BIG waves in ireland
Crazy Skies
Nice lines

whats with the weather?

Published by Rachey under Surf Rating - Tiny

so…we have been watching the weather in preperation for this bank holiday weekend and why is that its been so hot these last few weeks and now that we all get a long weekend the weather decides to turn on us again. I will definatley be keeping a close eye on it for the weekend, i am desperate to get back in the sea, although hells mouth has been looking quite small all week. I reckon its going to take a small miracle to get the conditions we want.

Forecast for surf this weekend

Published by Rachey under Surf Rating - Tiny

We have been keeping an eye on what has been happening during this week on the webcam at hells mouth - you can see the webcam here. There have been some really good pictures from there as the weather has been so hot, still and just generally nice, leaving the way for some really clean if not really tiny waves. Tuesday, wednesday and thursday have all had really cool pics - If you follow the link above you will be able to see the new pics each day, they are usually uploaded about 8.30am which is usually when i arrive at work.

The forcast for this weekend (17th - 18th May) doesn’t look that great, and the weather is set to turn slightly (you can forgive small surf as long as you have nice weather).  The best we can hope for regarding surf is somewhere around 1foot with some breeze potentially ruining what small swell there is.

Usually we go down to Hells mouth every weekend surfing, but we are not going to bother this weekend as the conditions aren’t looking so good - we are saving ourselves for the bank holiday weekend next weekend and treating ourselves to a few days off work. Lets hope the waves pick up for then.

cool site

Published by Rachey under Cool Sites

You can also visit this cool site we found called sunbatheintheshade. Here you can buy cool funky surfer girl jewellery that is cool for the beach, lots of wooden bangles and long necklaces that look good with bikinis. They also sell handmade cards and give tutorials on how to make all of the cards that are made on the site.
We have handpicked some products out - here are are a few of our favourites:
Funky light coloured wooden ball necklace - a long necklace with large wooden balls on it, looks really really cool when it is worn with anything in the summer.
Ethnic Beads - lots of different coloured beads on this necklace, cool for any daytime occasion and goes with any outfit.
Colourful bright orange and blue beads - this along with an added wooden pendant make this necklace stand out from all the others.
Snake copper bendy necklace - this is the piece that everyone loves at the moment, it can be twisted and bended into any shape and looks cool in the evening.

bank holiday weekend, hells mouth

Published by Rachey under Surf Rating - Big

We set off at 6.30am on saturday morning, the car boot loaded up with picnic and tent - and the boards on the roof all set for the entire weekend of chilling out and surfing! So we thought, we arrived down at hells mouth for just after 9am, where there was absolutly no swell what so ever. So we made for the camp site to pitch the tent. Its a great camp site between The Sun Inn(pub) and hells mouth (porth neigwl) walking distance for both, perfect. Its called Glanmorfa campsite, there is hot showers, dont forget your 50 pence pieces though, loos, and hot and cold water sinks for washing pots. Peak season it is around £5 per person per night, which is really reasonable(they sell fresh eggs for breakie too).
Because there was no surf we made our way into the village of abersoch which was slowly getting busy with cheshire bank holiday makers! We had a mooch around the shops and basically did nothing for the next few hours, which in my opinion is what these weekend breaks are all about.

Saturday afternoon we made our way up to the other side of hells mouth where there is a small and very scenic cove called porth oer. In the past we have scrambled down the hill side to reach the sand, but if you go the right way you will discover that there is actually a set of purpose built steps. Today though we decided not to venture down but to stay going straight which involved scrambling over and up waterfalls and across farmers fences. Cool though because along the  way the wild life was brilliant we saw an eel in the waterfall, rabbits in the fields and some guy I was with reckons he saw a snake in the grass…ha! Saturday night in the Sun, as per usuall to sample the great home cooking and cheap ale.

Rumour has it that surf was UP on sunday morning so early to bed saturday night, on an air bed with holes in, so not the best nights sleep. Sunday morning we were up at 8am to meet a friend of ours who joins us for a surf, we met him down on Hells Mouth to discover the sea was a mess, so    angry and massive, there was no way I was getting in. There was no one else in the sea so that meant i wasnt going any where near it. We decided to jump in the car and drive across the peninsula to another beautiful beach, whistling sands. When the surf is to big and messy at hells mouth it is more often than not perfect at whistling sands. on this day this was true, once the drizzle had stopped the surf was perfect and we all took the opportunity to have our first surf of the year. The weather then got worse the sky turned darker and the rain started, still not the best conditions for surfing in the UK, typical…

Monday on the other hand was the hottest day so far this year I think, although surf still on the big side and quite messy, the lads were straight in, although struggled as the current was so strong it was difficult to catch any good waves. I was quite happy to sit and watch whilst i got a suntan!!!
The gorgeous weather stuck around all day which was good but it just made it harder to come home at the end of the day.
